The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has left her position as the US Attorney for New Jersey. This decision was prompted by a judicial decision that challenged her eligibility to hold the office.

Attorney General's Statement

The nation's top law enforcement official, Pam Bondi, accepted her stepping down on the start of the week. In a statement that the appeals court finding made it unworkable for her to effectively run her office.

"But do not mistake adherence to the ruling as defeat," she declared. "My fight will now reach across America."

Legal Background

The departure follows closely on a US appeals court determined that she had been serving in violation of the law as US attorney. This judgment is expected to impact numerous prosecutions in New Jersey.

The appellate judges ruled that a temporary posting that bypassed the advice and consent of the Senate violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.

Future Role and Reaction

It was also stated that Habba will continue working within the Department of Justice as a senior adviser. She will challenge the decision of the disqualification, in the hope of achieving a reversal.

On a social media platform, she argued that judges "should not be able to countermand the appointment of lawyers responsible for performing the primary duty of the administration of prosecuting crime."

Bondi commended the prosecutor's work and said that under her leadership, the Newark saw a significant drop in crime. She also stated that the city of Camden recorded its first summer in half a century without a homicide.

Connection to Donald Trump

The 41-year-old attorney, originally became part of the former president's legal defense in 2021. She later defended the former president in his business records case in New York last year, when he was conviction on multiple felony counts of financial record manipulation.

Prior to Habba took on the top New Jersey post, Trump had announced he was naming her as his presidential counsellor during his second administration, calling her as "unwavering in her loyalty" and a relentless legal advocate.
