Three-time award winner Nikola Jokic sustains a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association MVP Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee as the Denver Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 against the Heat.
Jokic sustained the injury late in the first half in an unintentional collision with teammate Jones.
The other player stepped on the foot of Jokic, who immediately collapsed to the court holding his knee.
The veteran player, who tops the NBA season in boards and assists, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup before suffering the setback.
Jokic is scheduled for an scan on Tuesday to evaluate the extent of the issue.
"Instantly, he realized he was hurt," commented Denver head coach Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone who suffers an injury, it's difficult, particularly somebody as important as Jokic. We will know more on Tuesday."
"The team will adjust together. Clearly, right now, I am focused primarily about Jokic personally and the frustration of going through a situation of that nature."
