This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
