New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police issued surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
