Martínez Double Keeps Inter in Pursuit of Frontrunners
Inter striker Lautaro Martínez netted a second-half brace to secure his side a 2-0 win at Pisa, keeping the visitors very much involved in the Serie A title race despite a less than convincing display.
League Table Overview
Led by Cristian Chivu, Inter now sit in third position in the table with 27 points, level with second-placed Roma and just one point adrift of leaders Milan. Meanwhile, Pisa occupy the third bottom spot with 10 points.
Game Recap
Inter arrived in Tuscany aiming to get back on track after enduring a derby defeat by Milan recently, which was followed by a European defeat at Atlético Madrid. Nonetheless, they were made to battle all the way by newly-promoted Pisa. The hosts generated plenty of chances, but a clinical Inter broke the deadlock in the 69th minute mark when Argentine Martínez smacked a one-time shot into the roof of the net. The forward then tapped in from close range with seven minutes remaining.
Inter’s capacity to convert despite difficult circumstances was crucial in securing the victory.
