Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
