Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several key changes:
- Every squad includes just eight real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
