Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his position after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
Slot lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with performances so bad.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
